BURKE, Lawrence David "Larry"
— July 15, 1950 - July 27, 2009. With profound sadness, the family of Larry Burke announce his sudden death as a result of a tragic accident in Surrey B.C., where he had resided for many years. Larry was born in Toronto, Ont., and grew up in L'Ardoise, a son of George and Peggy (Vanclieaf) Burke. He is survived by his parents as well as his brothers, Ron (Carol), Greg (Anne), Mark (Sharon), and sister, Georgette (Burke MacDonnell); nieces and nephews, Sarah, Rhonda, Ryan, Emily, Jarett , Brennan and Leigh. Larry was a Canadian weightlifting champion in the Olympic class who coached others all his adult life. He was a carpenter by trade, taking great pride in his work while "working to live"; an avid outdoors man with a special passion for white water rafting on the rivers he so loved. Larry's life was celebrated in Avalon Surrey Funeral Chapel on August 8, 2009, where he was remembered by his West coast family of friends as a person who lived large and gave freely, compassionate and determined in all that he did. Friends and family will gather in L'Ardoise Legion at 2 p.m., September 5, in a tribute to Larry, followed by reception.
